Are you aware of the impact you have on body tissue when repositioning patients?

Often, the focus is on the positioning itself rather than on how we move the patient from one position to another and the amount of tension and load we place on the tissue during repositioning. For instance, we need to consider the load we put on the tissue just by raising the head of the bed and how we can relieve this load again. In this workshop, we will explore, both theoretically and through practical exercises, how we impact the tissue during repositioning. You will have the opportunity to test this on your own body to gain a better understanding of the tissue damage that can occur during repositioning, and we will provide some tips on how to prevent this impact.

In an era where patient-centered care is paramount, effective communication between healthcare providers and patients is essential. This workshop, titled “Plain Language Recommendations and the Production of Plain Language Educational Leaflets for Patients,” aims to demystify complex medical jargon and empower participants to create accessible educational materials.

Attendees will explore the principles of plain language, focusing on clarity, brevity, and appropriateness of content for diverse patient populations. Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, participants will learn how to identify their audience’s health literacy levels and craft messages that resonate with them.

The workshop will cover practical strategies for designing educational leaflets, including structure, layout, and the use of visuals to enhance understanding. Participants will engage in collaborative exercises to draft their own plain language leaflets, ensuring that they address key health topics relevant to patients.

By the end of the workshop, attendees will not only recognize the importance of clear communication in improving patient outcomes but also gain the skills necessary to produce effective educational materials. The goal is to equip healthcare professionals with the tools to foster an environment where patients feel informed, empowered, and confident in their healthcare journey. Join us to enhance your communication skills and ultimately improve patient engagement and health literacy in your practice.

This work is supported by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic (by Czech Health Research Council) under grant No.NU23-09-00328: “Methodology of creating plain language recommendations for knowledge translation to support evidence-based decision-making
